Located in Newport, Kentucky, about 84 miles north of Lexington Kentucky, the Newport Aquarium is an amazing place to visit! Featuring the some amazing sea and freshwater creatures, this aquarium really is an amazing place to visit. Personally, I have been there more times than I like to admit. There exhibits are always changing, but have some amazing residents like albino alligators, shark rays, and penguins.
You do need to plan your trip in advance as parking is tricky and you do need to purchase your tickets early to avoid standing in line forever. Parking is a huge parking garage that costs around $5 to park (if prices have not changed since the last time that I was up there.) and there is an elevator directly to the level of the Levee that the Aquarium is located on. There are many restaurants near by, including my favorite- Dewey's Pizza!
Inside the Aquarium, you will see exhibits from all over the world, including local river wildlife and extremely rare Shark Rays. There are many interactive exhibits that allow you to touch the animals and even pet sharks. There is a cafe inside, in case you get hungry, and a gift shop at the end of the path.
